InclusaBar

A free, lightweight accessibility toolbar for WordPress.

InclusaBar adds a small floating button to your site. Visitors click it to adjust text size, contrast, motion and readability to suit their needs. Their choices are saved in their own browser: no accounts, no tracking, nothing sent anywhere.

Features

Each control works on its own or alongside the others, so visitors can combine whatever suits them. The toolbar includes:

  • Text size: make text larger or smaller in steps, with a one-click reset.
  • Line height: add space between lines, for text that’s readable but feels cramped.
  • High contrast: strengthen the difference between text and background.
  • Reduce motion: switch off animations, transitions and smooth scrolling. This turns on automatically for visitors who have “reduce motion” set on their device.
  • Focus indicators: a bold, high-visibility outline on whatever has keyboard focus, so people navigating with the Tab key can see where they are.
  • Reading mode: loosens line height, letter spacing and word spacing together, following WCAG’s text-spacing guidance.
  • Link underlines: underlines every link, so links don’t rely on colour alone.
  • Dyslexia-friendly font: switches body text to Verdana, Tahoma or Trebuchet MS with wider spacing. No font download needed.
  • Grayscale: removes colour from the page, for visitors sensitive to colour.
  • Big cursor: a larger, high-contrast mouse pointer for visitors who lose track of a small one.

Every control has its own reset, and a single “Reset All Settings” button puts everything back.

Why use it

Most people never change accessibility settings, because the settings are buried in their operating system or don’t exist on the site they’re visiting. InclusaBar puts ten practical controls one click away, and it’s built to do that without getting in your way:

  • Lightweight: one small stylesheet and one small script, with no jQuery, no external fonts and no third-party services.
  • Private by design: no analytics, no tracking and no external requests. Visitor preferences stay in their own browser.
  • Stays out of your way: it doesn’t load in the WordPress admin or inside page builders (Bricks, Elementor, Breakdance, Beaver Builder, Divi, Oxygen, WPBakery and Brizy).
  • Accessible itself: full keyboard support, screen-reader labels and announcements, and it follows your visitors’ light or dark mode.
  • Helps you get it right: the Settings page checks your button colours as you pick them and warns you if the button would be hard to see, so a brand colour never makes the toolbar harder to use.
  • Free, and staying free. There is no pro version and no upsell.

Installation

From WordPress.org:

  1. In your dashboard, go to Plugins → Add New.
  2. Search for InclusaBar, then click Install Now and Activate.

Settings

Go to Settings → InclusaBar. The options are grouped into two sections.

Toolbar Appearance

Where the toolbar sits on the page and how its button looks.

  • Toolbar position: any corner of the screen (bottom-right by default).
  • Edge offset: the distance from the edge of the screen.
  • Z-index: lower this if the toolbar sits on top of a fixed header or footer.
  • Button colour: the button’s background, to match your brand. It’s also used for switched-on toggles and keyboard focus outlines inside the panel.
  • Button icon colour: the colour of the icon and label on the button (white by default). As you choose it, InclusaBar checks the contrast against your button colour and rates it green, amber or red against the 4.5 : 1 accessibility standard. If the contrast is too low, one click picks a colour that works. You can still save any combination, but you’ll see a warning first.
  • Button corner radius: from square to fully round, in pixels or a percentage. 0 is square and 50% is fully round (the default).

Text Adjustments

How much each click of the Text Size and Line Height controls changes the page, and how many clicks are available.

  • Text size steps: how much each step changes the text size, and how many steps are available.
  • Line height steps: how much each step adds, and how many steps are available.

Privacy

InclusaBar doesn’t collect, send or store any personal data.

  • Visitor preferences stay in their browser. When a visitor changes a setting, it’s saved in their own browser’s local storage so it’s remembered on their next visit. It never reaches your server.
  • No cookies, tracking or analytics.
  • No external requests. The plugin loads no fonts, scripts or services from anywhere else.
  • Your settings: the only thing stored on your site is the toolbar configuration you choose under Settings → InclusaBar. Uninstalling the plugin removes it.

Visitors can clear their saved preferences at any time with the toolbar’s “Reset All Settings” button, or by clearing their browser’s site data.

Security

InclusaBar is built to keep the chance of it being exploited as low as possible:

  • Only administrators can change settings. The settings page needs the “manage options” permission, and every save goes through WordPress’s built-in form protection.
  • Every setting is checked before it’s saved. Colours must be valid colour codes, the toolbar position must be one of the four corners, and number fields are kept within sensible limits, whatever is submitted.
  • Everything is escaped on output. Text and values are escaped before they appear in your admin or on your site.
  • Nothing to break into. The plugin doesn’t create database tables, write files, accept uploads or make outside connections, and visitors’ choices never reach your server.
  • Checked before every release. Each version is run through WordPress’s official Plugin Check tool, followed by a separate review covering access control, input handling and output escaping.

Reporting a problem

If you are using this plugin and think you’ve found a security issue, please report it privately through the Connect page rather than in a public support forum, so it can be fixed before it’s made public.
